August 2024 · 2 minute read

RuPaul has announced his forthcoming memoir The House of Hidden Meaning. Sharing a video on Instagram on Wednesday (Oct. 4), the Emmy Award winner revealed how the process impacted him on a personal level.

“Writing this book left me gooped, gagged, and stripped raw,” details the caption. “I’ve learned that vulnerability is strength, but so far, all I feel is nervous as hell, yet super excited to share it with y’all. When all is said and done, it’s just me, Ru.”

In the video itself, RuPaul is sporting a bare, freckled face and a Los Angeles fitted cap over a grey hoodie as he opens up about the never-before-shared moments documented in the memoir.

“I’m so excited and so anxious at the same time because I reveal so much of myself,” explains the 62-year-old. “This world today, it feels so hostile, and it’s such a scary place to be vulnerable in. But I did it. So get ready.”

The book is set to be released through Harper Collins on March 5, 2024. The official description reads as follows:

“From international drag superstar and pop culture icon RuPaul, comes his most revealing and personal work to date—a brutally honest, surprisingly poignant, and deeply intimate memoir of growing up Black, poor, and queer in a broken home to discovering the power of performance, found family, and self-acceptance. A profound introspection of his life, relationships, and identity, The House of Hidden Meanings is a self-portrait of the legendary icon on the road to global fame and changing the way the world thinks about drag.”
