Mario shared kind words regarding Tory Lanez‘s musical talent in a clip making rounds on social media. Shared to Instagram by Hollywood Unlocked, the R&B singer detailed his opinion on how the Canadian artist might return following his prison sentence.

“When he comes back out, he gon’ probably put another… he gon’ go crazy when he comes out. I already know,” shared the 37-year-old. “You already know how Tory is. He gon’ go crazy with the music.”

After a member of production shared their fondness for a Tory Lanez verse off camera, Mario continued to elaborate, “He’s one of the greatest writers of our generation, as far as urban music… He’s a great storyteller. Tory is incredible. He’s fire.”

The conversation continued to reveal the two artists have been in communication since Lanez, legal name Daystar Peterson, has been behind bars.

“We spoke a few months ago,” shared the Baltimore native. “He good.”

In August 2023, Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of three charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in the shooting of Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

Mario penned a letter to the judge in support of the convicted singer ahead of sentencing.

“My name is Mario Berrett, and I am a recording artist and business man. I am good friends with Tory Lanez and have known Tory for over seven years,” he wrote. “One of the things I love about Tory the most is how deeply he cares about his family… Growing up without a father, I admired that he was fortunate enough to grow up with his. Those conversations revealed how much of a standup person Tory is.”
